Phoenix Iconic History

The 5th Avenue Café is a historic neighborhood landmark restaurant near Willo in Metro Phoenix. Opened in the late 40’s, the restaurant operated originally as Upton’s, a well-known dining spot for Phoenix residents, politicians and celebrities. Next owned by Dee Bung, a female trailblazer of her day. The restaurant boasted table service, a floral shop and candy counter.

Serving Midtown Consistently

In March 2021, the new owner, Ana Alvarado, revitalized the interior of the 5th Avenue Café while maintaining the friendly, neighborhood atmosphere of its early beginnings. Today’s menu items remain consistent with the unique favorites established by the previous owners, including the award winning Chicken Fried Steak, named Top 5 in Phoenix according to the New Times, 2 years running; additional favorites include the Cowboy Breakfast, the 5th Avenue Eggs Benedict, Belgian Waffles and Pancakes, Steak and Eggs, and Biscuits and Country Gravy to name just a few. Moreover, new favorites were added such as the Buffalo Chicken and Summer Salad. Cooked to order Angus-beef burgers are a classic for lunch. Breakfast has always been served all day.
